Demolition of Toll Booths at George Washington Bridge for All Electronic Tolling

  • Client: Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
  • Location: Fort Lee, NJ

Project Overview

Our team was contracted to make HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection upgrades to the Upper and Lower-Level Toll booths in Fort Lee, NJ. The project encompassed the creation of demolition drawings and specifications. On the upper level, we carried out the complete removal of the canopy above the tollbooths, which housed mechanical equipment such as air handlers, hydronic boilers, and cooling towers. Additionally, we dismantled the roadway drainage system and fire hydrants. All associated ductwork and piping were sealed off at the underground utility tunnel beneath the toll booth roadway. To prevent freezing in the winter, we converted the hydronic fin tube radiation at the underground utility tunnel to electric unit heaters.

On the lower level, modifications were made to the ductwork for the fan coil units to facilitate heating and cooling in the underground utility tunnel.
