Emergency Replacement of Elevator 244 at Grand Central

  • Client: MTA Construction & Development
  • Location: New York, NY

Project Overview

This project was situated at the 42nd Street Grand Central Subway Station on the IRT Flushing Line and involved the reconstruction of an essential ADA elevator (El-244) that connects the IRT Lexington Avenue Line with the IRT Flushing Line within the Grand Central Subway Station Complex.

Given the elevator’s critical importance to the public and the absence of alternative ADA transfer options in the vicinity, MTA C&D awarded an emergency replacement contract. This contract encompassed the fabrication, furnishing, and installation of a new hydraulic elevator, complete with finishes and attendant systems, and required work in structural, electrical, communications, mechanical, architectural, and environmental abatement.

Due to the project’s vital location, an accelerated construction schedule of 7 months was implemented, compared to the typical 12-month duration. We successfully handled this demanding timeline, guaranteeing the project’s completion both on schedule and within the budget.
